NaNoWriMo Update And A Change of Heart

I’m having a great time now on my NaNoWriMo novel.  Things keep hitting me and I’ve spent a lot of time over the last week getting that wordcount nice and high.  I’m most likely going to reach 50k in the next day or so.  I’m on (hopefully unless I change my mind again) the last part of the story, the finale.  Then for the rest of the month I’ll be going back through it and adding all the stuff I need to add in for the ending to make any sense whatsoever.  It’s funny how what started as nothing suddenly grabbed my attention and forced me to go with it.  It’s complete shite but I feel great that I’m actually going to finish something.

I’ve never finished anything.  I have lots of ideas, I start lots of things but I can never keep the momentum and my interest going long enough to complete anything.  It may not seem like a big thing to any of you but to me, this is major!  I’ve finally proved to myself that I can make time for my own thing even with two blogs and all of the reviewing I take on, not to mention the family.  And I didn’t just make time, I can manage to finish things.  If you knew me really, you would be as astounded as me, trust me.

I know I’m never going to be a “real” writer as in get a book published but I’ve achieved a little personal progress so that’s okay by me.  Sometimes I get frustrated and want to give up on everything.  Last night I was literally about to delete my blogs and my bebo page and all of my writing and go hide away.  I get like that sometimes but today I’m determined to be a little bit more…cheerful and be proud of things that mean something to me – hence this post.  Again, blame Cardiogirl for her latest post, it gave me a little pause and made me think about some things a bit differently.  Besides, I’d miss bugging people like her if I fecked off.   🙂

50,000 words? That’s amazing. I started a novel and put it away for a few years. Then my daughter give me a reminder that if I didn’t finish it, no one would.

    So I did.

And many things have happened since ….

Hi, David, I was on your site recently (in my head you’re the cobweb man) looking at those amazing pics.

Well done on finishing it and on the many things that have happened since… 🙂

I signed up for it this year but never got started, unprepared. So maybe I will work on an outline for next year or just do it myself, finding time is a problem.

    Good luck on yours though.

I am sure the woman that wrote Harry Potter sitting in a cafe as a single mum never thought in a million years her book would be published either. Never say never guide to the universe rule number one lol

WHAT EVER are you talking about?!?!?! Deleting your blog!?!?!?! When we have just discovered each other?!?!?! No way! I will haunt you!! This blogging thing is very important stuff, for writers and readers. So quit sounding like a ‘Toerag’ (God, I love that word!) and snap out of it!!

Yep, Michael, it can be had to make time. I think most people that do it have already thought it out and prepared some sort of plan then just get stuck in. I suppose that would take some of the pressure out of it. You should definitely try it again or give yourself a personal challenge, a certain amount of time to complete so many words and then try and stick with the deadline. Good look if you do!

Robin – Yeah, I’m sure she didn’t think she’d get this far anyway! But I don’t think that kind of thing will happen more than once every hundred years 🙂 T’would be amazing though if it did!
